Back to Nature Wildlife Refuge Celebrates Re-Opening!
We’re delighted to share that the Back To Nature Wildlife Refuge at Eagles Roost Green Place reopened its doors after a five-year hiatus! The grand ribbon cutting drew a crowd that included county officials, community members, and dedicated refuge staff and volunteers. This transformative $5.6 million expansion includes a new visitor center, animal-care building, community center, food-preparation facility, and administrative offices.
“This refuge reminds us that our quality of life depends not just on the growth of our urban areas, but on the care we show for the land and creatures around us.” - Orange County Mayor Jerry Demings
We’re honored that Borrelli + Partners served as the Architect of Record, contributing to a design that harmonizes animal care, public access, and environmental education. The layout not only enhances the visitor experience but also supports the refuge’s mission in wildlife rehabilitation and education.
President of B+P, Jorge A. Borrelli with Orange County District 2 Commissioner Christine Moore
Moving forward, District 2 Commissioner Christine Moore said she hopes to see even more partnerships launching between the refuge and Orange County Public Schools. “Places like this are so important for our children. You have to take children to places like this. They have to experience it. And we have to be purposeful about that.” - District 2 Commissioner Christine Moore
Commissioner Maribel Gomez Cordero, who represents the part of Orange County including Eagles Roost, also lauded the facility for providing nature-based education.
“I can't wait to see how you use this new space to educate and inspire our kids and our community. Together, we are improving lives and connecting people and nature.” - District 4 County Commissioner Maribel Gomez Cordero
The public grand opening was on July 12. For more information, check out this article.
